Store › Writing with Plants: Rewilding the Self through Ecological Healing

Writing with Plants: Rewilding the Self through Ecological Healing

from $5.00

When: May 15th, 2026 from 10am - 2pm

Where: The Bartram Trail: Wallace Branch to William's Pulpit. While we will be doing some hiking, the walks will be at a slow pace, and we likely won't hike the length of the trail, as we'll be spending more time communing than hiking.

There is an opportunity to carpool from the Cowee School in Franklin. We will leave no later than 9:40am.

What: As a phenomenologist, writer, and artist who works with plants, I navigate these roles with the belief that 'creating with' is an effective way of 'getting to know' and that languaging is one of my love languages. Writing is a way for me to enter into relationship with plants and landscapes. In this workshop, we will explore different ways of attending to plant voice and responding through creation. The workshop will involve somatic walks, writing practices, and essence making. Everyone will leave with their own essence, created from different elements of the landscape that want to come home with us. Writing will be used as a grounding practice throughout the workshop to process and compost our encounters. Key themes we will discuss are plant connection and communication, how plant medicine steeps in landscapes, bodies, and mugs of tea, and rewilding the self.

Essence-making materials will be provided. If you have a glass jar and/or clean dropper bottle, you're welcome to bring your own; otherwise, they will be provided. Writing materials will be provided if you don't have your own. No prior writing experience is required. We will take a lunch break. We will be spending our time outside, so please bring what you need to feel comfortable. Blankets, cushions, or chairs to sit on when we're not moving around are welcome.

This workshop is donation-based with a suggested minimum donation of $5 to cover the cost of materials.
