As herbalists and human beings, it is our responsibility to learn how plants want to be encountered and engaged with. In this workshop, we will explore how to acknowledge a plant’s agency and autonomy in our herbal practices. We will also explore how to pay attention to plant voice, which manifests through the ecology of being bodies in conversation. When we learn to attune ourselves to place in the same way that plants are deeply embedded in the worlds they emerge from and through, the languaging of plants and the land becomes legible, and we can work with them and learn from them rather than about them. What would it feel like to ask permission before entering a forest, or before harvesting a plant?
